Biography

Wade Marrs, 35, (Veteran) hails from Knik, Alaska. He and his wife Sophia and children Mack and Asher run 49th State Sled Dogs in Willow, AK, a 40-dog kennel. He has finished the Iditarod ten times. Wade also races in the Yukon Quest Alaska, Alaska mid-distance races, John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, UP200, Can Am Crown, and Klondike Dog Derby. Wade got into mushing through his family dog team. He learned mushing from his late uncle and the Redington Family. Wade says, “The men and women who started the Iditarod are the heroes.” Wade gives a great deal of appreciation to all his mentors–too many to name. For Wade, the Iditarod represents a challenge. “The harder the trail, the worse the weather–that’s what me and my team love most.” When not on the runners, Wade enjoys being with his family and having fun wherever we are. Wade works as a sled dog tour guide.
