Nome, Alaska – Tuesday, March 13, 2012 – Veteran Iditarod musher Tom Thurston (Bib# 5) of Oak Creek, Colorado scratched in Unalakleet at 14:37 Alaska Time.  Thurston made the decision due to concern for his dogs.  He had 8 dogs on his team when he made the decision.
