Yentna is hopping. Mushers are coming and going in quick succession. There is not much time to really talk to them. All the mushers want to do here it get rid of their bib and keep on going.
Aliy had her bib already stripped off, so the process is a bit quicker. Mitch was looking for some heat for his cooker. One other ” duty ” is to sign a couple of posters here for the checkpoint. Where in the later part of the race, there is only one in and out chute, there are 6 of them here one next to each other. That way traffic does not bunch up. Most mushers are carrying dogs, which causes a little confusion when checking in and out, specially if the dogs are ” only counted ” and not verbally confirmed with the musher.
The fastest time in here so far is Scott Janssen with 3 hrs 45 minutes. That is VERY fast, Most teams are well under 4hrs. Only Allen Moore has run a bit longer 4 hrs and 13 minutes, and that might not be a bad thing at all. Hard and fast can ding up dogs quickly. If he did a couple of short stops along the way, that will help his team later in the race.
Here some more shots, now the light has gone down too much, to get many more. Will saddle up and head towards Skwentna soon. Happy trails.
