Mitch Seavey into Galena, Little Detour at Checkin

Mitch Seaveys’s team looked really solid on the Yukon River. He had his team up on step. They were pretty much loping way into a 15 mile an hour hea wind and seeming to love every minute of it. That headwind is a good thing, as it makes the heat of the day feeling less hot. It feels much different here in the checkpoint than down on the river.

He checked in at 14.45 with 14 dogs. Checking in did not go quite a smooth as planned. I overheard the checker say before ” This is Mitch Seavey we better get this right “. Wellll, almost. His team missed the inbound trail to the checkpoint and they kept on going down the road. It took a couple of people jumping into the team to finally stop them, bring them in over a big snow berm so he can check in.

See, even 2 time Champions are getting tangles.

Mitch ran over here from Ruby in 5 hrs 36 minutes, or about 40 minutes faster than Aliy Zirkle. That is a big difference of close to 1 mile per hour. He is currently resting in the dog lot, Mitch has not taken his 8 hr layover yet. The only team of the current front group which has taken their mandatory 8 hr layover is Dallas Seavey, He is about 19 miles out and traveling close to 10 miles an hour and has already passed Joar Leifseth Ulsom. There is not many dogs, who can run this type of speed, I assume that is why Dallas had dropped 2 dogs in Ruby
