This is the first cold morning of the whole race. 5 below on the river and mushers are bundled up and dogs are frosted over. I snow machined out to greet Joar Leifhseth Ulsom and John Baker on the Yukon River.
Take a look at this one shot. See the ice fog. That shows there is open water.
With the drama unfolding here last night, of which the mushers arriving here know nothing of, it just is a beautiful morning running dogs for them. John happily greeted me ,” Morning Sab “. Which pretty much reflects the whole situation. The actions of one person, have altered the reality for a very small group of people. Specially for Jeff and Aliy. They are both handling the situation very well. Both show incredible mental toughness continuing their race. There will be interviews coming out, I have seen Jeff get interviewed a couple of times. It has also changed the reality for the locals here, a very welcoming group of people, who have been pouring their heart and soul into running this checkpoint for many years, same as the mushers have been putting their heart and soul into their dog teams.
Shots from the beautiful Yukon River.
