Mitch Seavey rested for about 3 hrs 20 miles before Unalakleet. He is cutting his rest a little shorter than he has in the past. He had been building his team for the coast, keeping runs short and trying to give 4 hr rest breaks. He is taking over the lead here in Unalakleet. Resting outside the checkpoint had a few perks. It was quiet for him and he was at a perfect day-nighttime schedule for the dogs. This run should get him to Shaktoolik before noon.
While both Brent Sass and Dallas Seavey were putting on booties, Mitch Seavey pulled in. He told the vets that he wanted to drop one dog and then to the checkers that he wants to grab some food and fill his thermos, ” I guess we will be chasing him out of here,” Dallas said watching his dad pull in. It’s a familiar sight inside the checkpoint building, reporter Emiliy Schwing trying to keep up with Mitch Seavey, asking questions. ” Mitch are you still having fun? ” Yes, why not, comes his answer, the dogs are eating and it’s not too cold out.
With this, my time is up here too… down the trail I go.
Here some shots
