At a young age, Nicolas Vanier of Paris, France, began traveling in the far north. Since then he’s covered many miles in Canada, Alaska, Norway and Siberian. In Siberian alone, he’s logged more than 20,000 miles of expedition travel in Siberia. He’s also gone from Skagway, Alaska to Quebec.

By profession, Vanier is a film director and author. He’s produced “The Last Trapper” and “Wolf.” He’s written about 50 books, including photo books and fiction. Nicolas is 54 years old.

From the race guide, “Two years ago he went through Mongolia, China and Siberia and did the Yukon Quest, finishing in ninth place. I loved this experience.”

Where is he right now? Vanier departed Tanana at 13:31 after a rest of 6 hours. His run time from Manley was 13 hours and 38 minutes for a speed of 4.84 miles an hour. He’s yet to take his 8 hour Yukon River rest as well as the required 24-hour and differential rest.
