Sebastian Vergnaud

Sebastian Vergnaud began mushing in his early twenties. Now at the age of 46 he’s living his dream of running Iditarod. Sebastian is a veteran of the Finnmarksløpet that runs across Finnmark in Norway. It is the world’s northernmost sled dog race.   At 1,000 kilometers the race is run with 14 dogs and takes five to six days to complete. It was from that race the Vergnaud became interested in doing Iditarod.

Sebastian was born and raised in France. Vergnaud says he moved from France a long time ago to train dogs in Scandinavia, Canada and Alaska. For hobbies Sebastian enjoys motocross, supercross and mountain biking.

Sebastian is currently resting in Haslia with 16 other mushers.  He’s completed both his 8 hour Yukon rest and his 24-hour layover in earlier checkpoint.  In the race of all rookies, Vergnaud is running behind Robert Redington and Nicolas Vanier.  Sebastian covered the distance from Galena in 10 hours and 28 minutes at 7.83 miles per hour.
