Martin Buser and team arrived in tokotna with 16 and departed minutes later at 1:10 PM with 14 dogs, leaving two with the vets. His time from McGrath to Takotna was respectable at 2hours 25 minutes and he continues to imress mushers who realize he could be hours to the front. Even the most sober mushers grant him a three to four hour advantage over the field as it stands today.;
More memorable than his in and out appearance was the sensation caused by Martin’s leaders who walked up into the porch of the community hall and tried to lead the team right through the entrance door. I heard a veteran checker from Takotna, “Well, we’ve certainly never seen that before in all my years.”
Martin is on his way to Ophir and beyond. Now all done with the 24 hour obligation, all he has to do is stay ahead of the advancing pack, many of whom will be released about midnight to chase himl He is the modern mushing Ginger Bread Man.
