The Grandson of Iditarod founder Joe Redington Sr. came into Cripple with 14 dogs in 12th place. He passed quite a few teams en route. We are having to adjust some of the ETA’s here. And Ray confirmed, the trail is getting a bit drifted in and is not quite as hard and fast as it has been. Got a note from Tom Huntington in Galena which said ” Drifting trails and windy is going to be the norm on the Yukon. Toughness will show from Cripple to Kaltag.” And Tom, living along the river, knows better than most!
Here are a few pictures of Ray. I did not catch him on the trail as I had hoped. Blame it on the burgers. Somebody fried some yummy burgers and they sure called my name. By the time I was done, he had just arrived.
I am debating of when to leave here. Sitting with camera man Kevin Bodhi, he shared his thought that the winner of Iditarod 42 might not even be here in Cripple yet. That sure is a possibility with both Seaveys still en route. And then there is Hans Gatt.
Happy trails.
