Insider guy David Poyzer has provided us with more awesome photos from Ruby. I’m always impressed with his work but there’s one shot in this group that show’s how small a musher and dog team is within the massive landscape of the Yukon River. Former Iditarod photographer Jeff Schultz liked to emphasize the grandeur of Alaska with a small subject, like a musher, and big landscape like mountains. Don’t know if David likes that concept but for at least this one photo he did.
In a conversation with Greg Heister of Insider, David said, “Somebody asked me if I’m the new Jeff Schultz.” He replied, “I can’t be Jeff, I can only be me.” Hey David, you’re doing a fantastic job of capturing and sharing race moments while being you. Thank you!
BTW in that same interview, David mentioned that he and Iditarod photographer Siri Raitto were considering plans to publish a coffee table book using pictures of the 2026 Iditarod. Imagine flipping through the pages that nearly emanate cold on a hot humid summer day. Ah, wouldn’t that be enjoyable? Something to keep your eye out for.
