A new school has opened in the Mat Su Valley.  It is named in honor of the ‘Father of the Iditarod’, Joe Redington, Sr.  This school is located a few miles from the Redington home. 

“We’re blazing a trail to greatness here just like Joe Redington Sr. did with the Iditarod and we hope to support them in their path,” Assistant Principal Claudia Blydenburgh said. 

Barbara Redington, Raymie Redington’s wife and daughter in law of Joe was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.  Speaking about the students, Barb said, “There’s many paths and trails to take.  I hope they all discover in school that school is not a race. They shouldn’t worry about being better than anyone. They should be the best they can be.”
