9:37AM Joar the Norwegian maintains presence in top Ten
Joar Ulsom arrived with ten dogs into the White Mountain Checkpoint. On the board, that puts him in 6th place.
4th place Dallas Seavey, having arrived at 8:09AM (three hours behind Aliy and his Dad Mitch), was in the checkpoint when I looked out the window in the dim morning light to see Joar and team.
“Really nice guy. I had a chance to travel with him and he’s a good driver. He’s also curious and wants to ask a lot of questions. If we see him again, he’ll do well.”
Of the race to the front, the studious Dallas noted that he was particularly impressed with aliy Zirkle’s race. “Listen, two years in a row in the top ten. That’s impressive, especially since she really wasn’t in the top before then. See that, she gained an hour over here on my Dad. Very consistent, that’s what I want to be, even if you don’t win.”
In the mix, just to bring us all up to date, we should mentiony Redington running in 5th place. Nobody can shake him.
In the background chatter I can hear Comms making arrangements for movement of officials up and down the trail.
WE are attempting to move to Nome this afternoon in anticipation of a midnight finish. Often the finish is earlier, in the afternoon. The late finish is not what you call prime time TV audience finishing time.
Clear and calm appears to be the weather call for this afternoon
