Both Aliy and Jessie were talking about the slow trail conditions when we passed them on the sea ice. Jessie gladly took the go pro camera along, to show how hard she had to work to run about 6 miles an hour. Check out that video. The long run was still on both women’s minds when they arrived here.
Aliy Zirkle was glad that she stopped for a little bit in Shaktoolik. Her run time of 8.23 hrs was 1 hour slower than Dallas Seavey, yet she was a bit faster than Aaron Burmeister.
Jessie Royer’s runtime 7hrs 52 minutes is the second fastest so far. She has made up quite a bit of time over Aliy on this last run, and that despite the fact that she rested shorter, or better said, did not rest at all in Shaktoolik.
Both teams are bedded down for a nice rest. It is warm out, about 20F. Aaron Burmeister said earlier, that he is not going to leave here till early evening. It looks like that Dallas Seavey will be the team out front once he pulls the hook here.
