Mitch Seavey in 5th position in and out Unalakleet

Mitch Seavey came and went in Unalakleet with 9 dogs. This is Mitch’s 26th start in the Iditarod and he has been a champion in 2004, 2013 and 2017. Since 2013 he has not finished out of the Top 3. This year, he has to fight to hang on to 5th place. Aliy Zirkle and Jessie Holmes are not far behind. Both stopped en route from Kaltag. Time will tell if they will pull over here in Unalakleet.

Mitch came in at 20.20 and stayed for 7 minutes. Digging through the food drop bags always seems to be a bit like Christmas. He was glad when he found chicken skins. Some runner plastic had ripped of his sled and he was glad to be able to replenish that too. Before heading on down the trail Smith walked up his team checking on his dogs. He seemed happy with his position in the race and said that he enjoyed a good rest on the river.
