And the teams are off. The outbound trail is PACKED. Bonfires everywhere, fans lining the trails, I am waiting at so called Corall Hill, about 10 miles out, where the teams will drop onto the Big Susitna River. The trail leading up to here is near perfect. In deeper snow year, specially for teams futher back, the snow can become quite deep, as each passing team chews up the trail a bit more. With just a skiff over the ice, traveling conditions should be pretty even for all teams on this stretch, no matter what number. Let’s see if I can get some action shots on Corall Hill later on.
It was nice to catch up with Jason and Lance Mackey. Its great to see those 2 brothers getting along so well. I wish them both a safe und fun journey, along with all of their competitors.
