About Jeff Schultz
Jeff Schultz has been photographing in Alaska since arriving in 1978 and the Iditarod since 1981. A native of the Bay Area of California, Jeff moved to Alaska chasing his dream of building a log cabin and living off the land. While that never materialized, he knew he was home when he arrived in Alaska. Jeff has been photographing both stock and assignment photos of Alaska and Alaskans ever since. Jeff’s God-given talent of photography has afforded him a unique lifestyle to travel throughout Alaska photographing both assignments and stock photography. His images have been published world-wide in books, magazines, advertisements, brochures, annual reports, websites, retail products and more. Jeff owns and operates Alaska’s largest stock photo agency, Alaska Stock Images. This Alaskan stock photo agency specializes in images of the Last Frontier by marketing over 275,000 stock photos from more than 100 photographers for use in commercial applications.
Joe Redington Sr., asked Jeff to volunteer to take pictures and help out the 7-year old race in 1981. Jeff traveled as far as his meager travel budget would allow him that year– to McGrath, a 1/3 of the way to Nome. He came back to Anchorage and took a commercial flight to Nome to see and photograph the finish of the race. When the race was over, Jeff donated his photos to race organizers to use in publications for the race. He was invited back the next year, this time as an official photographer. The Iditarod Trail Committee offered to pay his air transportation and food expenses along the trail in exchange for use of his photos to promote the race. Jeff agreed and each year since then Jeff has photographed the race as the official volunteer photographer under those same simple terms.
