Biography
Yuka Honda, was born and raised in Niigata, Japan. “All of my family loves dogs and we have always had dogs.” She attended the university in Japan, studying Agriculture Physics and worked a rice field readjustment job for the government. In 1998, she moved to the North West Territory, Canada, where she was a handler. After watching the Iditarod on television the following year, she began to dream of running the Iditarod. She moved to Alaska in 2002, and in 2009 went back to Canada with all her dogs to start her own kennel in the Yukon Territory. She completed the Yukon Quest in 2012 and the Iditarod in 2015. Her Ginga Express Kennel is now in Alaska. “They are my family,” says Yuka. ” I have such nice dogs, they are beautiful, smart and amazing. I want to try the 50th Iditarod and enjoy it with my dogs.”
