Biography
Sydnie Bahl, 36, (Rookie) was born in Minot, North Dakota. She is married to Nick Bahl and works at Dream a Dream Sled Dog Farm out of Willow, Alaska, which has 35 dogs. Sydnie says, “After I moved to Alaska, one of my first patient’s wives was an Iditarod finisher. I was instantly fascinated. She connected me with musher Vern Halter, and I started as a handler—quickly falling in love with the dogs, the lifestyle, and ultimately setting my sights on finishing the Iditarod myself.” The Goose Bay 150, Copper Basin 300, and Yukon Quest Alaska 300 are pivotal events in her journey toward competing in the prestigious Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Sydnie’s mushing mentors include Vern Halter, Dr. Susan Whiton, and Cindy Abbot. She loves the Iditarod because it will allow her time alone with the dogs, deepening that bond, and the camaraderie with fellow mushers. It will also take her through parts of Alaska she’d never experience any other way. When not mushing, Sydnie enjoys skiing, hiking, mountain biking, traveling, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. Sydnie thanks her many individual dog and checkpoint sponsors. “We could not do it without everyone’s support!”
