Its warm in Nikolai and the heat of the day is the theme. Pictured is Jessie Royer at the Nikolai School.
Peter Kaiser, Jake Berkowitz and Dee Dee Jonrowe are discussing running schedules. Jake decided to stay an extra hour and leave at 3. p.m. Aaron has left at 12.25 and Aliy is taking off. Its a gamble. Here a musher is trying to help their dogs where ever they can on the trail, running up the hills or ski poling. But than again in situations like this, where the temperature goes well above freezing than the time made up with helping might go away again resting. But its hard to deny the fact, that the dogs rest very well in the heat of the day. Last year it was kind of cool and windy here, planes could not fly in, and the whole checkpoint was much more quite.
Teams are parked everywhere, but well orderly. While I was looking for shots, taking a picture of a local home, looking through the 400 mm lens, I could see a man in the doorway eying me through binoculars. The guy next to me said: ” that my dad, Billy, he is 93 years young and still drives around town with a snowmachine.
Here a few heat of the day shots from Nikolai.
