Seavey and Seavey, Champion and Champion!

The next 2 teams into Shaktoolik are both Iditarod Champions and both carry the last name Seavey. Father and Son are battling it out. Last year the older and wiser Mitch edged out his son Dallas. This year Dallas has made a big move in Unalakleet and passed his elder. Currently he is about 7 miles ahead of his dad. Although Dallas is driving the smallest team of the front runners and just has come off the longest run, he has posted the fastest runtime. And that by a lot… with only taking 5hrs and 9 Minutes. Needless to say, I missed him coming in, because I took a bit of a nap and only woke up when the checkers came back in. Should have gotten a wakeup call. Sonny Linder just got woken up. He took an exuberant 25 minute nap. Aliy Zirkle pulled out of the checkpoint shortly after 7 a.m. and Jeff King just left before Mitch Seavey arrived. It is fast paced here in Shaktoolik right now.

Here some pictures of the checkpoint and Mitch Seavey coming in
