And here is number 4 into Shaktoolik. Sonny Lindner from Two Rivers, Alaska. Not a bad of a count for the small community, with 1st and 4th place into Shaktoolik. Sonny is running a great race. He says this will be his last one and its time for the younger generation to take over… , time will tell if he stick with that. His official time in is 5.53 with 13 dogs.

The checkpoint here in Shaktoolik is small and very well set up. Rhody who is the race judge here and the whole crew knows what is important to mushers. Water for their dogs quickly, coffee on all the time and then a fresh set of printed out race stats for those mushers who are interested. Jess and Heidi are working comms and they know the drill well. It is running like clockwork here. 

When Jeff comes in they ask him what he wants, ” Coffee, Cinnamon Rolls, Stew “…. and Jeff replies ” all of the above, thank you “.  And the alarm for Aliy Zirkle goes off. Sleep for the mushers is hard to come by this late in the race. You can not really call it sleep. Just a wink, a few minutes here and there, but it feels good nonetheless. 

Here some pictures of Sonny. His team also looked really great coming in. He had a very hard time stopping. On the way in he almost went down the wrong driveway and quickly corrected with gee gee… and came right in where the checkers were waiting. One of his first questions was has anybody left yet. Sonny is in race mode….
