Biography
I am Han Gwich’in from Eagle Village, Alaska and a citizen of the Native Village of Eagle and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation in Dawson City, Canada. I live and train on the traditional lands of my ancestors, the mountains and valleys of the Upper Yukon, 40 Mile River country, where I was raised in a dog sled. We got our kennel name from our clan. I’ve lived around the world and have had many adventures, but nothing compares to the joy and peace I find on the trail with my dog team. The only thing that makes it better is when family join me on a dog run. In the years I didn’t have a dog team, I spent time doing triathlons and have completed an Ironman and several half-Ironmans around the world. My greatest accomplishment, pride and joy, are our children, Izzy, Jake, Quannah, Jevaughn and Denali who are all young adults making their way in the world, so now I have the time and energy for a dog team again. I serve on various boards including Doyon Limited Board of Directors and am the President of Hungwitchin Village Corporation. I often travel for speaking engagements, and am currently producing a film called Beautiful Resistance. I wouldn’t be here without the love and support of my amazing husband Jamey Joseph, family, friends and generous sponsors.
