Two mushers scratch on the coast of Norton Sound, Richie Diehl and Aaron Peck

Veteran Iditarod musher Richie Diehl (bib #16) of Aniak, Alaska, scratched at 1:30 p.m. today at the Unalakleet checkpoint.

Diehl made the decision to scratch in the best interest of his race team. Diehl had 11 dogs in harness at the time he made the decision to scratch.

Veteran Iditarod musher Aaron Peck (bib #36) of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, scratched at 3:50 p.m. today. Peck scratched at the Shaktoolik checkpoint, which was relocated to Old Shaktoolik with help from the community.

Peck made the decision to scratch in the best interest of his race team. Peck and his race team will be flown back to the Unalakleet checkpoint. Peck had 10 dogs in harness at the time he made the decision to scratch.
