<>Zack Steer, 36, is married to Anjanette and they have two boys, Glenn, 7, and Clay 5. The family owns and operates Sheep Mountain Lodge in Alaska. Both Zack and Anjanette were born and raised in Alaska. They enjoy working and playing together, especially their time together with their kennel of 24 racing sled dogs. Zack grew up in Anchorage, graduating from Service High School and spent 4 years at Colorado College, receiving a BS in Political Science and Economics in 1995, before returning home to Alaska for good.

Zack has been running and racing sled dogs since 1996 with friend and kennel partner, Robert Bundtzen. Zack took his first dogsled ride in 1996, and within one year was signed up to compete in his first Iditarod in 1998. Zack has many fond (and not-so-fun) memories of his travels on the back of a dogsled. Mostly, he enjoys the time outside alone without the distractions of day-to-day "responsibility." Zack appreciates the privilege of racing in the Iditarod and enjoys competing against the best long distance mushers in the world.

Zack has competed in the Iditarod five times, placing as high as third in 2007. Zack has also raced in the Yukon Quest as well as in many other mid-distance races in Alaska.
