Biography

Jeff Deeter, 36, (Veteran) grew up in Alaska, moving all around the state as a child. He is married to KattiJo and together they run Black Spruce Dog Sledding with about 40 dogs. Both are mushers participating multiple times in the Iditarod and many other races. Jeff saw his first dog sled race as a 6-year old while living in Noorvik, a small native village located north of the Arctic Circle. Jeff was immediately enthralled with the allure of mushing, and knew it was something he wanted to try. Jeff ran his first Iditarod at the age of 19. He says, “I have now been running dogs for 22 years, and after traveling most of the state by dog team and competing in many different races, I continue to run Iditarod for its uniqueness. The experience of traveling across Alaska with some of the most gifted athletes in the world (my dogs), is second to none.”
