RED LANTERN: Ellen Halveson in Nikolai SCRATCHED: Hans Gatt Scratched in Nikolai due to concern for his race team. AWARDS: PenAir Spirit of Alaska Award given to Dallas Seavey for being the first musher into McGrath. Dallas will receive an orginal “spirit mask” created by Alaska artist Orville Lind and $500 in credit on PenAir towards travel or freight shipments. GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award given to Dallas Seavey for being the first musher to reach the halfway point at the Cripple Checkpoint. Dallas will receive a trophy and $3000 in gold nuggets.

Cindy Gallea is the oldest female musher racing this year. Cindy is 64 years old and lives in Minnesota. She is a nurse practitioner. Cindy has run the Iditarod many time and says each time will be her last. Cindy says’ “ I have found it difficult to let go of something that is deep in my soul and that gives me the opportunity to run my dogs for days through the beauty of Alaska” Cindy has 2 sons, veteran Iditarod musher and race office Jim and Brian.
