March 11, 2017 Evening Update

Hi Boys and Girls,

The teams are really on the move. It looks like every musher has taken their 24 hour rest but not all of them have taken their first 8 hour rest. Mitch Seavey is leading the pack. Trail Tales

Ryan Redington has bad frostbite on his face. He was still able smile when an Elder asked if her grandkids could pet his dogs. He shook her hand let the kids pet his dogs. He then bootied the dogs and left the checkpoint. Thank you to Mike Kenney for this story and pictures.

Question of the day

Why do the dogs wear booties? What are booties?

Answer to previous question

Daylight savings time is the practice of setting your clocks ahead one hour in the spring and setting it back one hour in the fall. It is suppose to make better use of natural daylight. This is happening tonight. We need to set our clocks ahead one hour. I just did mine. It was 8 pm where I live so I set my clocks to 9pm. Wow it’s already my bedtime and I don’t even feel tired!

So how do you think this will affect the race? It won’t. All of the teams times will be adjusted and you’ll never know it happened!

Sleep well tonight. Check back in the morning to see what’s happening on the trail.

See you on the trail,

Gypsy
