Hello friends,
Did you know that each year the Iditarod puts a teacher on. the trail? Well. . . they do. In 1998 a teacher from Indiana named Andrea Aufder Heyde (Finney) had the idea of attending the Iditarod to experience the race and share those experiences with her class. BOW WOW! What a great idea. Each year since, the Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC) has respected the value of education and has allowed a teacher to be a part of the race and share the experiences with classrooms around the world. The 2020 Teacher on the Trail™ is Kelly Villar from Connecticut and – awoooooo – is she ever excited for this year’s race. You can follow her here https://iditarod.com/edu/category/teacher-on-the-trail/ to read about her adventures. (For you teachers out there, Kelly also has some great lesson plans at the same link.)
A shout out to students from Janesville. Rylee, Nacho from SPKennel is a great dog and a good friend. And Landon, I am fine. Remember, if you have a question about the race, you can e-mail me here: askzumadog@gmail.com. Check back here for answers to your questions. Since I lack opposable thumbs, it’s hard for me to answer all questions, but I’ll try my best.
Tail wags,
