I got to take a plane ride out to McGrath today to interview students from Brooksville, Maine. Yes, Boys and Girls, you heard me right. The students I interviewed were from Brooksville, Maine. Isn’t that amazing?
These students have been working for 2 years to raise $30,000 to go to Alaska for the start of the 2011 Iditarod and to go to McGrath! The students did all kinds of fund raisers to earn enough money! Put your paws together and give them a clap because they did ‘PAWSOME’ at raising money!
Once arriving in McGrath, the students, their teacher, Mrs. Lepper, and the parents who were with them, went to the McGrath school where they were welcomed by Judy Kuhn, the principal and a teacher. The students from Maine got to meet the students from McGrath. Judy has worked hard to help plan all kinds of fun activities for all of the students!
One day the students went ice fishing. (But, they didn’t catch any fish!) The next day the students went sledding. AND how exciting— the boys and girls were at the checkpoint when Martin Buser, the first musher into McGrath arrived on Tuesday evening! Oh what fun the students had!
My favorite part of the day, though, was watching the students from Maine climb up a big snow pile and be interviewed by the Iditarod Insider video team! I had to give a howl song when into the camera the students all yelled, ‘Hi, Mom!”
A big congratulations to the students from Brooksville, Maine! H O W L I N G a song!
Lots of Tail Wags,
Zuma
