For most of us school is starting or even started. Those of us in Wisconsin are lucky, we can’t begin school until after Labor Day or September 1, whichever comes first. As a seasonal business owner, this works perfect for me.
With the start of the school year, my time as 2013 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail™ officially begins. (I call this my third full time job.) I’ll share lessons I will be using in my classroom and in some cases, share video clips of my students working on these lessons. Attached is an Iditarod Lesson Calendar with some of the lessons you can expect for the upcoming school year. It is not set in stone because, as we all know, things change as the year progresses.
A general overview of the calendar is that in the beginning I will focus on the great state of Alaska, then I’ll start some IditaWalk activities as well as Character Education. From there I’ll move into some Math and Science problem solving activities. What I’m looking at in the month of January is a “Stone Fox Challenge” to see how many students we can get to read this book. As I head into my time on the trail, I’ll focus on some “Flight” lessons celebrating the Iditarod Air Force.
The 2012-13 school year is going to be an exciting one for me. With the support of my school, my partner teachers, my students, and my friends and family, I am beginning the journey of a lifetime. Please join me as I embark on this experience. Here we go!
