Here we go on another Trail Word Tuesday adventure! December spotlights Justin Olnes! Justin and his kennel truly are one-of-a-kind. He is an Alaska marine mammal biologist just north of Fairbanks. He and his wife, Kailyn, own and operate ReRun Kennel. What makes their kennel so special is that the majority of their dogs are rescue dogs in need. They started in order to give these special dogs a loving home and give them back the job they love to do more than anything else…run! Their amazing kennel contains approximately 34 racers, recreational, and retired sled dogs. Justin ran the 2025 Iditarod, where he was unfortunately forced to scratch. He hopes that he will be able to run again in the future. Check out these words from an Iditarod favorite… Justin Olnes!
“There are many great words that must be embodied to succeed at mushing and the Iditarod. I chose ‘discipline’ because I believe this is a critical trait that is easily overlooked. A good musher must have discipline in their life. The dogs thrive on a consistent routine and rules. With
a disciplined musher, the dogs know what to expect and what you are asking of them. A disciplined musher means you are on top of their care and meeting their needs. It also means you keep working towards your goal and put in the effort everyday to succeed.” -Justin Olnes
