Best Dog Care Ever!

Libby here!

One thing that really makes me spin, spin, spin in circles like I’m chasing my tail is knowing that the dogs in the Iditarod are some of the best cared for dogs in the world!

Even before the race starts, these dogs have to go and see their veterinarian.  These dogs have to pass their tests and the vet has to say the dogs are healthy or they have to stay home and not go to the race.  The vets make sure each dog has a healthy heart and has no medical problems.  The vets even take blood samples from each dog.  From the tip of the ears to the end of the tail and all parts in between, the vets take a close look at each of the dogs.  There is no reason to have a sick dogs in the race.  As a matter of facts, the dogs that the mushers bring to the vet check have been in training for the race.  They have been eating nutritious meals, getting plenty of exercise, and have been to see their own vets on a regular basis.  Mushes want healthy dogs racing and so do all of the veterinarians!

Today, I’m going to spin and spin in circles to celebrate the healthy dogs of Idiarod!  While I do, I’m going to hope that you take time to think about what you do to make sure your pets are healthy.

Just spinning some De’tails’!
