On The Trail

Hi Boys and Girls,                                                                                                                                         Iditarod 45 is off and running. Everyone, human and dog, were so excited and ready to go Sunday. It was a beautiful cold day. The teams are now on the trail fairly close together. Hope you are enjoying following the race!

Who’s In First                                                                                                                                                      The mushers have started to arrive into Manley Hot Springs. The mushers are still close to each other. As of 8:05 AST, the top 5 mushers are:

  1. Martin Buser
  2. Mitch Seavey
  3. Nicolas Petit
  4. Dallas Seavey
  5. Wade Mars

REMEMBER: Until the time differential is applied to all times at the 24 hour Mandatory rest, we will not know who is truly in the lead. What am I talking about? Look it up. I’ll also let you know in my next post!

Rookie Report                                                                                                                                                  There are currently 16 rookies out on the trail. Their dream of running the Iditarod is actually happening. We wish all of them the best run.                                                                                   Currently in the Rookie of the Year Position is Roger Lee in 9th Place. He is currently traveling between Nenana and Manley Hot Springs.

Trail Tales                                                                                                                                                           All teams have left Nenana. They should all be arriving into Manley Hot Springs shortly. Boy that’s going to be a busy place! Not all mushers will stay there. Some will camp along the trail. In a day or two we should start seeing the teams spread out. Check the updates often. You can get an update anytime at:

I will also be posting a couple of times a day. I hope to have some great stories to post!

Weather                                                                                                                                                             Since all of the teams are either in Manley Hot Springs or on their way there, that’s where our daily weather report will be from. It is currently -30 degrees. WOW that is really cold. It is sunny, clear and the wind is calm

Question of the day                                                                                                                                              I asked earlier in this post if you knew what the time differential is? I’ll answer this tomorrow.                         Extra question today: When I posted the time above, I put AST after the time. What does that mean?

Photographs                                                                                                                                                         Unless otherwise noted, all photos used in these posts will be from Jeff Schultz or Mike Kenney.  You can look at the pictures and see who took the pictures.  Hope you enjoy seeing pictures from the trail!  These guys do a great job.

See you on the trail,

Gypsy
