Teams Start Order

Hello friends,

Last night lots of human friends gathered to celebrate the 2025 Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The Ceremonial Start will be Saturday, March 1 and the Restart is moved to Monday, March 3 in Fairbanks. The reason for the new start date is that there is NO SNOW in south central Alaska – especially for the 33 dog teams racing across Alaska. In the north there is plenty of the white stuff so teams will take an all new route for this years race. Teams will leave 3 minutes apart at the Ceremonial Start and 2 minutes apart at the Restart. Don’t forget about that time differential – the 2 minutes will be added in after each musher’s 24 hour layover. That means Jason Mackey who will leave the starting gate first in Bib Number 2 (Bib number 1 is for our honorary musher, Stu Nelson) will have a 24 hour + 33×2 extra minutes. Emily Ford who has Bib number 34 is the last to leave the starting gate so she will have a true 24 hour layover. Math is hard for K-9s so you’ll have to figure out all the differentials by yourself. The rest of the start order can be found here.

The map for the 2025 Iditarod. This year’s route is about 130 miles longer than the regular route. Click on the map to find the Checkpoint names and distance between each checkpoint.
