Hi Boys and Girls,
Can you believe that the Iditarod Start is only 2 weeks away? While everyone is very busy getting ready, there are two special teachers packing their suitcases for a great adventure. They were selected as finalists for the 2019 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail ™ (TOTT™) position. They will be in Alaska for interviews, presentations, workshops, the start and restart and so much more. After the race is over, one of these teachers will be selected to be the 2019 TOTT™.
Meet Teresa Campbell and Brian Hickox.
Teresa is a 5th grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher from Virginia. She loves spending time outdoors and her favorite activities are hiking and kayaking. She also loves to travel to see new places and meet new people. When I asked her why she would like to be the Teacher on the Trail, she replied, “Being the 2019 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail would mean that my motto of DREAM BIG for not only myself, but my students, would be exemplified by this amazing experience, honor, and opportunity. It will give me more opportunities to share my love of teaching and grow as an educator.” She also said that her favorite quote/saying was: “I realized adventures are the best way to learn.”
Brian is an 8th grade ELA teacher from Massachusetts. He also coaches Lacrosse. He is a very adventurous person and has traveled across the United States visiting National Parks, hiking, enjoying the wildlife, and meeting incredible people. He also said he was a thrill seeker who has going skydiving, snowboarding, camping and whitewater rafting. He has a great passion for the outdoors. When asked why he would like to be the Teacher on the Trail, Brian replied, “ Being selected as the Iditarod 2019 Teacher on the Trail™ would afford me an unique opportunity that would allow me to become immersed in a different culture, share my experiences with others, grow as an educator, and inspire students and educators to learn with engaging activities and insightful messages.” Brian can’t wait for the adventures that lie ahead!
These sound like two very special teachers. Good luck to both of them.
See you on the trail,
Gypsy
