Hi Boys and Girls, It’s Friday!!! While most of us will get to relax the next 2 days, the mushers will still be hard at work getting their teams down the trail. The teams are moving nicely down the trail. Most of the 24 hours rests are completed. Did you see any changes in the standings (order in which the mushers are racing)? Ken Anderson out of Cripple 5. Mitch Seavey out of Cripple All of the top mushers have completed their 24 hour rest except for Jeff King who is now resting in Ruby. RED LANTERN MUSHER: Ellen Halveson in Nikolai- should be finishing up her 24 hour and will be on the move shortly SCRATCHED: Charley Bejna scratched in McGrath due to concern for his race team. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: You may have noticed that Dee Dee Jonrowe has been in Takotna for a long time. Dee Dee changed sleds in Takotna and forgot to move her tracker to the new sled. She is progressing down the trail and her tracker is being flown to Cripple where it will be attached to her new sled. AWARDS: The Lakefront Anchorage First Musher to the Yukon given to Jeff King for being the first musher into Ruby. The award consists of a 5 course meal prepared by The Lakefront Anchorage executive chef Robert Sidro. Jeff also received $3,500 in one-dollar bills presented on a commemorative Alaska gold pan. Sass_Brent_2016-150x195Brent Sass Brent is 36 years old and has been racing and training huskies for 13 years. He is the owner and founder of Wild and Free Mushing in Eureka Alaska. He is originally from Minnesota. Brent has been racing since 2006. He was the Iditarod Rookie of the year in 2012. Brent also run the Yukon Quest 9 times and won that race in 2015.
