Hi Boys and Girls,
Well tomorrow is the BIG day. It’s the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. There is a lot of preparation work going on tonight in Anchorage. Sleds need snow to run on. Streets don’t usually have snow on them. The Ceremonial Start starts on 4th Avenue in Anchorage. How do you prepare the streets so that sleds and dogs and start the race.
Around 5pm the roads were being closed off to all vehicle traffic. The fencing was put up and workers worked to get the roads ready for snow.
Around 10pm dump trucks full of snow came down the street and dumped the snow on the road.
Right after the dump trucks dumped the snow, large trucks followed them and spread the snow out.
They will be working well into the night to get enough snow on the road for the teams to run on in the morning. It was fun to watch.
Well the Ceremonial Start trail is getting ready, it’s snowing out, and there’s about 11 hours to go until race start. I better get some rest. It’s going to be an exciting day tomorrow and I can’t wait!
See you on the trail,
Gypsy
