Shelter Dogs

Dear Friends,

The 2022 Iditarod has begun!  Yesterday, the 49 teams raced off from Willow Lake on their exciting journey.  I wonder if you knew that some mushers have a heart for shelter dogs?  A shelter dog is one that is either homeless and taken to an animal shelter, or its owner can no longer care for it;  the dogs are cared for until some kind person adopts them.

Sebastian Dos Santos Borgas, from France, has adopted some shelter dogs who are running on his team in the race!  He said this about them:

“I started dog sledding with shelter dogs and I still have some in my team; they guide me daily. They are not the strongest or the greatest but they are my family, my friends.”

That’s pretty special!  What a great life those dogs have being adopted into Sebastian’s family!  Be sure to keep an eye on his team during the race.

Until next time,

Gypsy
