What to Take for the Dogs

Dear Friends,

This week, the mushers are busily checking and rechecking their gear to carry on the sleds.  Did you know they must bring supplies for their sled dogs?

Clean, dry booties for feet

Insulated dog coats

Non-chafing harnesses

Dog food:  kibble, frozen meats, dog snacks

A cooker – needed to heat water so they can add it to the dogs’ food for hydration.  It needs to hold 3 gallons at a time, usually melted snow.

Veterinarian notebook – this allows vets at each checkpoint to communicate about the dogs

Taking great care of the sled dogs is what the mushers plan to do, as well as allowing the dogs to do what they love:  run!

Until next time, this is your canine reporter,
