Zoom Lens – Skiers and Sibes in UNK

Monday evening and two races were going on in Unalakleet.  It’s an annual affair in Unalakleet, both the Iditarod and the cross country ski race.  Ski Instructor, Nancy Persons, and the ski team host their ski race across the slough from the checkpoint.  The children participate in ski school on Saturdays from the first snow until breakup.  The ski race is fun for the skiers and a time for parents and friends to cheer for the kids and snap pictures for the family scrap book.  The atmoshpere is like the Ceremonial Start of Iditarod.  With skiers on one side of the sough, mushers continue to check into the checkpoint on the opposite side.  Mike Ellis and his team of Siberians arrived during the race.  Ivy is a particular handsome team dog.  She sports one brown eye and one blue eye AND the iris of the blue eye is partly brown.  Ivy could be a study in eye color genetics!
