2022 Winter Conference Speaker Highlights
Monday, February 28
Arrive in Alaska, get checked into your hotel, and rest up for some very busy days ahead.
Tuesday, March 1
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Breakfast starts at 8. Workshop sessions led by Iditarod EDU staff, including our current Iditarod Teacher on the Trail, Jim Deprez. Special session from Bryan Bearss, veteran Iditarod musher, now principal in the Anchorage School District.
Wednesday, March 2
7:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Field Trip Day! Ride a chartered bus to Iditarod headquarters to experience pre-race vet checks first hand, have lunch, and then visit Matthew Failor’s 17th Dog Kennel at Alaska Husky Adventures to meet the dogs! Lunch provided.
Thursday, March 3
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Breakfast starts at 8. Continuing sessions to include the finalists for 2023 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail. This day ends with you attending the 50th Anniversary Musher Banquet in downtown Anchorage. Your ticket is included in your registration fee.
Friday, March 4
9 a.m. – 9:50 a.m.: “Behind the Scenes of the Iditarod” Hear from staff and race coordinators about the jobs they do to make The Last Great Race happen every year.
10 a.m. – 10:50 a.m.: The Big Alaska Show This iconic Alaskan radio show will be hosting an audience participation broadcast at the Lakefront from our conference speaker segment. It will be fun, informational, and interesting to see who will win “Stump the Teacher”.
11 a.m. – noon: Book Fair. Meet authors of mushing and Iditarod books, then enjoy a book fair that will help you fill in the missing spots of your Iditarod library collection.
1:30 – 3:30 p.m.: I.C.E. add-on Become an Iditarod Certified Educator! More information here: Get I.C.E.d
