The Iditarod Alphabet 2017
L is for Laura Neese
Laura Neese is an Iditarod rookie musher and she is racing out of Nature’s Kennel. Laura first learned about the Iditarod when she was ten years old, and since then she has dreamed of completing the “Last Great Race on Earth”. When Laura was fourteen she started her own little kennel in her hometown in Ohio. Once Laura was 18 she moved up to Michigan and her dream of the Iditarod were on their way. Laura will be starting with bib #7 in the 2017 Iditarod.
Laura is one of many mushers living out their dreams this weekend as they make it to the start line of the 2017 Iditarod.
Musher Larry Daugherty first learned about the Iditarod from his grandparents and after a move from Florida a few years ago he completed the 2016 Iditarod. This year he will be racing again, but for a bigger cause than his own dream. Larry is a doctor and will be carrying prayer flags down the trail with him. These flags have the names of his patients and of those who have lost their battle with cancer. Larry will then travel to Nepal this summer with a team of doctors and carry those same flags to the summit of Mt. Everest. Such an adventurous spirit!
Thomas Rosenbloom is another rookie who will make his way to the start line this weekend. Thomas fell in love with the Iditarod after watching The Toughest Race on Earth documentary. After he finished the movie, he just KNEW he needed to race the Iditarod. After finishing school and traveling around a bit, Thomas decided it was time to pursue his dream. Three years later, Thomas will begin the journey to Nome with the rest of the mushers this weekend.
